Oak Forest
is a suburb of Chicago in Cook County, Illinois, which is the second largest county, by population, in the U.S. This excellent location puts Oak Forest within close proximity to the railway, expressways and downtown Chicago, and is also less than an hour from the Midway and Chicago O'Hare Airports. Oak Forest is one of the fastest growing communities southwest of Chicago, and has a great environment for businesses to grow and prosper. The city's mission is “to support and encourage quality development and redevelopment to enhance the economic vitality of our community.” In 2007, Mayor JoAnn Kelly announced plans for the “Gateway Project,” which consisted of a mixed use commercial & residential development at the corner of Illinois Route 50 (Cicero Avenue) and 159th Street. This project will provide Oak Forest with a transit-oriented development at the METRA commuter rail line. The Gateway Project will also enhance the tax base of the city and generate additional commercial interest in the Cicero Avenue Corridor.
