Oak Forest
offers a whole host of special events year round, including nature programs at the Forest Preserve District and golf tournaments at the George W. Dunne National Golf Course. Also, with Chicago just minutes from Oak Forest, you can be sure you'll find something of interest to everyone in your group. Concerts and theatrical performances, conventions and trade shows, seasonal events, parades, festivals and fairs – take your pick. The following is just a sampling of the special events in the Oak Forest/Chicago region.
The Oak Fest – a tradition in the city of Oak Forest for over twenty years, this special event is a not-for-profit fund-raising effort for the financial benefit of local charities. It includes a 5k run, Battle of the Bands, an arts and crafts fair, lots of entertainment and great food.
St. Patrick's Day Parade in Downtown Chicago
Annual Chicago Blues Festival – Usually held in June. This landmark celebration is the largest free admission Blues festival in the world. The four-day festival features the best in national, international and local Blues on six stages with more than 70 performances.
Chicago's Gospel Music Festival – A three day festival that serves to recognize and celebrate the historical, communal and social significance of Gospel music. This event is usually held in June.
Mayor's Office Kids & Kites Festival - Held twice a year in the spring and fall, the whole family is invited to see who can fly their kite “up to the highest height and send it soaring.” Free kits are provided for children to design and create their own kite and kite flying professionals are on hand to demonstrate how it's done.
4th of July Fireworks on the Magnificent Mile
Bike Chicago is a five-month-long, city-wide program that features more than 100 cycling events. Usually held May through September.
Celtic Fest Chicago – This two-day festival features music, dance and traditions of the Celtic regions of France, Brittany, Wales, Ireland and the Scottish Highlands. Usually held in September.
The Chicago Jazz Festival – The city's oldest lake front music festival is a Labor Day weekend tradition. This four-day festival offers the best traditional and contemporary jazz on multiple stages along with an art fair and food vendors.
Chicago Farmers Markets – May through September. More than 70 vendors sell fresh fruits, vegetables, plants and flowers in 29 neighborhoods throughout the city.
63rd Street Holiday Parade in December
Christkindlmarket Chicago – Daley Plaza in Chicago (Washington, Clark & Dearborn Streets.) Thanksgiving weekend through the month of December.
New Years Eve Fireworks Display at Navy Pier.
